From now on, I'll be updating every 2 weeks now. Let's talk about NPCs and love interests!
I wanted to settle on the personalities of all the base characters, and I'm pretty happy about them now. I made multiple lists of scenarios that helped me flesh out the love interests (from now LI), like how each LI would react to being seen naked, being kissed in public, or what would they bring to differentiate themselves enough. I keep tweaking things, but this is how they're looking right now. Top then spots are the inn residents. One of the empty spots might be a male, since I feel silly having such an unbalanced ratio without any real reason, we will see.
I try not to talk too much about unfinished features, but way back I mentioned wanting the player to be able to see all content in a single playthrough. That was when I had a more linear approach to gameplay, nowadays it seems very unlikely. I'm being very influenced by Tokimeki Memorial 2 at the moment, I'm fucking loving it, no dating sim I’ve played comes close. A lot of its greatness comes from the amount number of variables, man I wish I can capture a 5% of it. Taking girls out on special dates, means there's only 1 person you can spend those days with. I'll try not to be too restrictive, and there's some things I want to do more in groups, like multiple people going to the beach for special events, but yeah. I won't restrict you to play as long as you want, but I guess there has to be a canonical time limit, like 3 years.
Duckstation emulator. Invited her on a date to the beach. Seeing her so pumped and the beautiful sprites made me feel things.
So, about the spontaneous gameplay. Last month I talked about the time slots, and my plans to make characters still move around the map. After playing around with it, I still wished for some "urgency", so I ended up adding some time limit for the time slot, so characters are not endlessly roaming around until you do something, since if you wanted the character on a certain place you could just wait for her to cycle through all the possible spots.
Not getting technical, but it was a bit more tricky than anticipated, but I still got it. At first, each character could either have some free time (random places to go), or fixed schedules on the timeslot (Aya going from the inn to the bus stop in the morning). I really wanted to mix both, since the timeslots are lengthy enough as to not feel rushed, so I made it so characters have the randomized aspect along with hard coded behavior, in the same timeslot.
So now Aya on Mondays morning she has [SLEEP, FREE_TIME, GO_TO_BUS]. Since there's three elements, I divide the total amount of minutes of the timeslot by three, and pass it to the character to receive alerts when their timer is done, with a small variation of 5-15% to not have all characters receive the order at the same time and move more naturally.
Then on their free time, they can either go to certain spots if the spots are not occupied already, or they can go look for another character, including the protagonist.
For each character, I'm slowly assigning a value for how they see every other character, representing how close they are to them, so they go see characters they get along with, or directly never go see other characters they dislike / don't really have any relationship with (this is yoinked from Tokimeki as well, each girl is affected by how you treat the ones they are close to).
Already the non dateable NPCs have a bit over 50 variables, the LI way more. Apart from making it more lively, all this effort is so you can get caught either doing things you shouldn't. I feel some things are only exciting if there's some risk factor.
Aside from all that, some changes like the beach area and the farm being separated (didn't show it before). I tried to merge them back when I didn't feel they deserved to being their own, but nah I finally figured some things so I actually want to visit each place.
Some other small additions: like I finally discovered decals, which are textures that appear directly on materials, just so I could make footprints on the sand. Also the sun now rotates in the sky according to the time of day, so no longer fixed shadows. And multiple bugfixes of things that were bothering me for months.
This month I had even more complications with the PC so I just took it to a tech store (after I got the new warranty SSD, fucking PC almost fried the new one again), and the whole thing of Spain getting a power outage, so I'll postpone Patreon for the 14th. Thanks for reading frens :)

Hello, the game's looking very promising, however, I loved the initial idea of not having to go through the grind/whole game multiple times to get all the content. I understand this can't be 100% possible for the new mechanics, so I just want to ask you to keep the FOMO factor and the necessity of repeating as low as possible. Thanks
Yeah I get that. Main solution I thought was to just allow for the player to continue playing after whatever years, even if the new content stops. Some characters are in the inn in a temporary way, like studying for university, so them being there for 8 years, kind of breaks the immersion, that's the main reason I mention a "deadline". But I don't have any real reason to demand the player to stop playing if they want to continue their save.
In-universe, the explanation could be that the characters want to stay a bit longer there. You just need a bit of suspension of disbelief when someone mentions going to play an university match when they are near 30 haha
A lot of great things. I'm glad to hear the progress and seeing some new sprites and the like. Crazy stuff with the whole Spain situation and your PC nearly biting the dust again. Hectic but I'm quite glad you are still able to progress regardless. It's also good to see some additional inspiration towards making the game a more unique experience. Keep at it, I hope you have been well. Not too much to say but I do like some of the new sprites in the list of NPCs. The lady with the lanyard and the last female interest in the box are quite interesting in appearance. Though it does surprise me that there is the option of a male interest. It does make me curious if we'll also get a chance with perhaps a much older lady or if we'll get to know their ages proper as development proceeds. I can tell things are only going to continue to improve and expand. I just hope the scope doesn't balloon too far away from being finished. Best of luck to the Patreon once it launches.
Haha yeah honestly, there's always something to do, and different ways to do so. When the PC was at the tech store I just wrote dialogue for the characters on the phone. No electricity? Just write ideas on paper XD
About the male, it's mainly the same deal as Astolfo (from Fate) or Bridget (from Guilty Gear). My tastes are fairly broad haha. I realize some people might not like it, that's why I won't force characters into the inn, every character except the main three girls, isn't mandatory. He could be at the inn too and attend events, and not be pursued romantically, that's up to the players to choose.
Someone else suggested to me the inclusion of an elderly woman,, and while I'm done adding extra characters for a long while now (for my own sanity drawing sprites), I'd like to add sex scenes between the parents of some of the LI. I guess in a semi-voyeur way. Sounds worse than when I picture the player stumbling at it and having a sweet short little scene. About the ages of characters, I have a ballpark with all of them, but purposely don't want have specifics myself.
About the scope, trust me friend, I have that in mind always. It's a big project, but having <30 characters, 10 being romanceable, doesn't sound too far fetched compared to other life sims. We will see if this becomes an Ikaros story, flying too close to the sun. But i really don't mind the time, I'll be doing this no matter what, it's my love in life at this moment.

It'd make sense not to show the ages of some characters. Considering some would either be a bit more private about it or chances are you'd be slapped for asking ha ha. I'm not too bothered by the inclusion of a male love interest that is completely optional. I like that you brought up examples like Astolfo and Bridget. Some people think they're women when they're not. But I'm glad to hear what you did consider while being mindful of the scope not going overboard. Having 30+ characters to manage is quite ambitious all on its own for a dating sim like this, I'm thankful that you've limited it to about 10. That's honestly pretty healthy considering how some permit way more than that or focus roughly around 6 and maybe a few hidden paths or just 4. I'll be working toward my own project next year but for now I'm looking into visual inspiration and actually learning how to draw and color. Hopefully I too do not succumb to the ambition the same way Icarus did. Best of luck as always. I'm happy to see how much love you've put into this project. I'm sure it'll blossom into something that will blow people away.

Damn I didn't expect the femboy to be popular, I'm glad.
I really want each character to feel unique enough, so I'll see how the relationships develop, if more personalities / characters are missing and such. Can't say for sure, but even if the game only has one, I'll give the character plenty of love.

don't go too crazy with it. It would ruin the broader appeal. make it skippable for the people that don't wanna participate in it.
