Not a love report #33

First of all, want to shout out patrons, because thanks to them I can cover some development costs. I'm starting to look for translators so I can localize this. I've been trying to have as few words as possible, so each translation shouldn't cost too much.

I've been thinking about localization for a long time with Love Inn, since it has so much more text in comparison.According to Love Inn's wishlists, 1st country is USA, but 2nd one is Russia, 3rd China, 5th Korea, 6th Brazil...

This was a really productive period, focused a lot on the UI.

So, in order of progress done since last devlog:

Inventory functions and shop. Instead of having all items from the shop on one window, I'll probably divide it by different shops (armorer, apothecary, builders..).

Complete overhaul of the UI. It's missing some love still, but it's looking much better. I'm doing things in a higher resolution than I'm used to for the UI, it's pixelated but you don't really see the pixels that big either.

Also added day of the week / months / years, to have a better sense of time passing, instead of having just a counter of days.

Food system I mentioned last devlog. You can see it on the far right of the screenshot (WIP), selecting it gives the option to select different food types. Almost all options are locked behind having to build the hearth, as most foods need to be cooked.

The different food options tie into the stats. Right now there are three you can see in the picture, but I'll add some more so there's some variation when sending the girl out on journeys (like strength).

Added main logic to the monk. So he'll spend a bunch of time on the other side of the door, so we don't have two characters on the main room, seems distracting + it's small, so there's room to breath. I've added so there's always some income coming to the monastery.

A couple days a week, the people near the monastery donate a bit of money to the monk. So even if the player never pays any attention to the game, with the money received from donations, they will be able to afford some food (though only the worst, cheapest option). But at least it can be completely idle, even if not optimal.

I've been thinking about progression between the characters. I'd love to have some unlocks in a "skill tree" form, but since I'm trying hard not to overscope and get this ready ASAP, I'm going with a linear progression for now. After I see if enough people like this, things might change, I'm very flexible on development, for better and for worse.

I'm also preparing for the Steam page. How does Vigilia sound? It's intentionally not in english, but close enough to its english translation (Vigil). Thought about some more commercial titles, like including Idle (Idle Vigil) in the title, but idk. I feel the moment I try to make it more commercial, the less serious / personal it seems to me?

Going for a Velázquez portrait vibe. I'll make it pixel art, but at a higher resolution than I'm used to so it's not immediately obvious, like the UI.

I quite like it. Good to see some progress. The summer heat has hit and man does it suck. It isn't super hot yet but it does feel intense given how accustomed I've become of cooler temperatures. I like the sound of Vigilia. I think it suits it pretty well. Best of luck man, the sketch looks quite strong and impressionable. The UI changes are also quite clean. Not too surprising on the users who were interested in terms of wishlists but it is great to see how many seek to support the game regardless of the language barrier.

Thank you Scott!! Summer is indeed hellish, it's been consistently +36ºC/96ºF here.  I've already forgotten what it feels like to be cold haha. I read about you going on walks, and I wanted to try and went on some too, have been a bit too sedentary.

And glad you like the name! That's a good sign for me. We will see how this goes.
Hope summer is gentler with us from now on. Have a good one Scott!

DAMN. Those temperatures are leagues more hellish than what I'm sitting through. We're in the 20s (Cº) and sometimes we get a good breeze. Supposed to cool off tomorrow thankfully but man. +36 is hellish. I could not survive that level of warmth. I'm built for the cold and vulnerable to the heat.  I've been doing my walks on days where things are decent enough not to get picked apart by the flies. The only other concern is probably the bears that sometimes roam in town. Good to hear you've been doing some walks. Back in the day I used to walk everywhere and anywhere I could. Helped keep a stable and focused mind. Best of luck to you and I hope you have a good AC to help ward off some of that heat.
